Description of the barn

Murt is a traditional Lakeland farm, dating back to 1728, and is situated in the Wasdale valley. Murt Barn is a converted stone hayloft and byre, being part of the range of farm buildings attached to the farmhouse. There are stunning views to the Scafell Massif, and the surrounding fells. It is situated 0.75 miles from Wastwater and is an ideal base for high fell walks including Scafell Pike, Mosedale Horseshoe, Great Gable and Screes Tops. There is direct access to footpaths and bridle-ways. For those interested in flora and fauna, the Wasdale valley has great variety, and coastal dune walks, Muncaster Castle and Ravensglass (for the Eskdale railway) are all only a stones throw away. There are 2 pubs in the village, 10 minutes walk from the Barn, both of which offer excellent food, including breakfast, and vegetarian dishes are a speciality. There is also a bus link to the coast at Seascale from Wasdale which can be combined with a walk back and the Ravenglass to Eskdale steam railway (see
