Description of the barn

Murt is a traditional Lakeland farm, dating back to 1728, and is situated in the Wasdale valley. Murt Barn is a converted stone hayloft and byre, being part of the range of farm buildings attached to the farmhouse.

There are stunning views to the Scafell Massif, and the surrounding fells. It is situated 0.75 miles from Wastwater and is an ideal base for high fell walks including Scafell Pike, Mosedale Horseshoe, Great Gable and Screes Tops.

There is direct access to footpaths and bridle-ways. For those interested in flora and fauna, the Wasdale valley has great variety, and coastal dune walks, Muncaster Castle and Ravensglass (for the Eskdale railway) are all only a stones throw away. There are 2 pubs in the village, 10 minutes walk from the Barn, both of which offer excellent food, including breakfast, and vegetarian dishes are a speciality.

There is also a bus link to the coast at Seascale from Wasdale which can be combined with a walk back and the Ravenglass to Eskdale steam railway (see www.lakelandcampingbarns.co.uk/wasdale-seascale-bus-link)

Facilities

Sleeping accommodation and cooking area are on the first floor, reached by an internal wooden staircase. The shower, toilet and washing up facilities are downstairs. Electricity is metered (£1 coins) and provides light, shower, water heater and power point. There is an electric heater. Car parking is adjacent to the barn.

You will need to bring ALL your own cooking equipment and utensils with you, including a stove.

Arrival time is after 4pm on the day of Arrival and must be vacated by 10am on the morning of departure. Key can be collected from the Farmhouse next door.
If booking with a child under 5 you must book the enitre barn for the sole use of your party.
Sole use 2 night bookings for Friday and Saturday nights, Bank Holidays 3 nights sole use bookings only.

Directions

(From the South) From the A595, follow signs to Santon Bridge and Wasdale. At the Bridge Inn, follow signs to Wasdale and The Lake. After approx. 2 miles, bear sharp left over bridge, and sharp right immediately afterwards. At junction (opposite telephone exchange) turn right, signed to Wasdale Head, and Murt is the 2nd gate on the left. The Barn and farmhouse are up a driveway 100yds from the road. Please do not use SatNav to find the property with the Post Code as it takes you to a different farm - please follow the above directions.
